They don't need to justify it, it hasn't changed in 7 years but inflation has always been there.

:approve:

I've been on Live for 3 years and I always knew it would rise at some point because of inflation. I don't have a problem with it at all.
I never buy gold from the Xbox anyway, I shop around for the cheapest place to get a code from. I know that code prices online will go up slightly as well because a lot of companies buy their stock from the US, but its still cheaper than buying it on the console.

Here's the email I got from Live-Codes:

• IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING XBOX LIVE SUBSCIPTONS!
IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Just a quick important email... ill get straight to the point.

Some of you may already be aware of this but this week Major Nelson announced price increases on 1, 3 and 12 months xbox live. These price increases mainly effect the USA. So now your thinking, why/how does this effect us? At the moment we are currently having the 1, 3 and 12months imported into the United Kingdom for our customers, this is due to the lower tax rate over in the United States. We will now be have to buy the subscriptions from the UK distributors so prices will be set to increase on the 1, 3 month and 12 month xbox live. We do have some stock of 1, 3 and 12 months left that we will keep at the current prices of £13.49 and £31.99, but the prices will be changing as soon as this stock runs out. So if your wanting to stock up... now's the time!

Please see below for some question and answers.

Who is this Major Nelson?
Community manager of xbox live.

Why is the price increasing?
Major Nelson announced this reason "Since launching Xbox LIVE in 2002 we have continually added more content and entertainment experiences for our members, while keeping the price the same. We’re confident that when the new pricing takes effect, an Xbox LIVE Gold membership will continue to offer the best value in the industry."

How much is the price increasing by in the USA?
1 month increase of $2 (RRP $9.99)
3 months increase of $5 (RRP $24.99)
12 months increase of $10 (RRP $59.99)

Why will this effect us?
We currently buy the xbox live subscriptions from the USA due to the lower tax rate offered over there. The price increases mean it will be cheaper to buy the stock from UK Distributors rather than having them imported.

I have 6 months left on my gamertag... what should i do?
You may wish to buy a 12months subscriptions now and redeem it before the prices increase. If you have 6 months left and redeem a 12month code, it is added onto your current expiry date - you would have a total of 18months.

What's the maximum amount of years/months can i have on my gamertag?
3 years / 36 months max.

When will the new prices come into place?
Its hard to tell.. we are trying to get one final shipment of 12months before the price increase comes into place but cant guarantee this. As soon as we start buying from the UK distributor the prices will reflect on the site, we will of course keep you updated.

What will the new prices be?
This is still be to confirmed... We estimate the new prices will be:
1 Month £7.99-£8.99
3 Months £13.99-£14.49
12 Months £34.99-£35.99

Are you the only site effected?
No 99% of sites currently buy the same way as us, you will see their prices increasing also.

Still cheaper than the £40 MSFT charge though so can't really complain I suppose.

Oh no, I have no problem with it. I don't pay the full price anyway so doesn't effect me :)

Meh, I don't play online enough anymore to warrant the cost. Last month of Gold then back to shiny Silver anyways!
